'Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location' latest news: Scott Cawthon drew inspiration from Japanese folklore in making game?

"Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location" has been hailed as one of the best in the "Five Nights" series, with many fans claiming it is just as good if not better than the first game. A new theory has been released that pieces together the lore of the games, particularly surrounding the killer animatronics.

The Game Theorists have posted a video indicating that game's creator, Scott Cawthon, may have been directly inspired by Japanese folklore. To be more specific, he may have based the animatronics on the Tsukomogami, a type of vengeful spirit in Japanese lore that inhabits an inanimate object. Once they've possessed an object, they attempt to harm humans.

As pointed out in a report from The Bitbag, the animatronics that are seen in "Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location" were once inanimate, ordinary machines, but things changed when several children were brutally murdered and allegedly stuffed into the animatronics. It is hinted that their spirits clung onto the animatronics and became the murderous enemies they are now.

Cawthon has yet to officially launch a proper update or DLC for the game, but fans now speculate that if he does release an update, it will address these possible links between his game and Japanese folklore. It is possible that the player will be given the opportunity to release the spirits and turn the animatronics back into lifeless machines.

The games never explicitly reveal the main plot points or the history surrounding the main events. Many of the plot points are hidden in mini-games, and even then, they are presented in symbolic images instead of outright expository text or video.

However, it is important to note that Cawthon has yet to officially address if he was indeed inspired by Japanese folklore and if these details will play a part in a future DLC expansion for "Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location."
