Very little news has come about concerning the 2016 Marvel film "Doctor Strange" and this is no surprise given that the company is focusing its marketing efforts on "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and "Ant-Man." However, director Scott Derrickson took to his Twitter page to reveal new details.
The photo in question reveals a wounded man in a gurney, his hands bloodied and wrapped extensively in bandages. Derrickson captioned the post with the words "Are you experienced?"
The art work was done by Brandon Peterson, both a comic book writer and artist, and was designed for the cover for a new "Doctor Strange" comic series.
Peterson's artwork is a direct reference to Doctor Strange's origin story. The Sorcerer Supreme was a gifted surgeon whose hands were severely damaged in a vehicle accident. Desperate to find treatment, he travels up the Himalayas and meets the Ancient One. It is there that he gains his magical powers.
A previous report by CinemaBlend states that the movie will not delve into this origin story and only give the audience a few glimpses via flashbacks in order to focus primarily on the main plot and villain.
Back in November, Scott Derrickson posted another image via Twitter and this one comes directly from "Doctor Strange: Into Shamballa," a graphic novel that takes place roughly two decades after Doctor Strange attained his magical powers.
It is highly speculated by fans that the "Into Shamballa" graphic novel will be the primary inspiration for the film's premise.
Other than the recent posts from the director, no other information has been officially released by Marvel Studios or Disney, other than Marvel Executive Producer Kevin Feige's announcement of Benedict Cumberbatch landing the leading role.
"Stephen Strange's story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity. In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character," Feige had stated back in January.
"Doctor Strange" will hit theaters in Nov. 4, 2016.
