Chip and Joanna Gaines to appear in new show 'Fixer Upper: Behind the Design'

Chip and Joanna Gaines decided to quit their popular HGTV show "Fixer Upper" last year, saying that they wanted to prioritize their family. However, fans of their show will be delighted to hear that the pair will be back via a new HGTV spinoff: "Fixer Upper: Behind the Design."

The development has surprised many fans, and some have been asking about what the difference between the old and new shows will be.

Addressing that question, it has been revealed that whereas the original show featured remodelling homes in Waco, Texas, the spinoff will instead focus on behind-the-scenes action on how their designs were chosen and created.

"You get the full-on home renovation in 'Fixer Upper,' but in this new show, you get the behind the scenes — the pillow choices, the paint color, the softer side of design — to give diehard fans more detail on something that they love," Kathleen Finch, Scripps Networks Interactive chief programming officer, explained to Adweek.

And because the spinoff will mostly utilize unused footage from the original "Fixer Upper" series, there will be much less extra work required from the Gaines couple.

Joanna took to Instagram (@joannagaines) to explain why the spinoff was being created. "We get a lot of questions about the designs, and how we get from point A to point Z when it comes to these houses and projects from a design standpoint," she said in a video post. "So we have a new series coming out this year, which focuses on each project and you get more inside scoop on how we came up with a lot of the design decisions and elements we got to incorporate."

Needless to say, die-hard fans of the show were thrilled with her announcement.

"Joanna, dear, cannot tell you how much I adore you and your show! I'm looking forward to your new one as well, though I'm even more excited for you and your new baby! May every blessing be yours, now and always!" a netizen wrote.

"Thank God I thought I was losing you guys lol! Can't wait for the new show. Absolutely love these two. Joanna best designer hands down .... Chip best husband hands down," another added.

The new series is scheduled to air in May.
