'Black Widow' release date rumors: Spin-off set for 2020? Scarlett Johansson's potential payout revealed

As the long-overdue Black Widow standalone movie is finally becoming more and more of a possibility, potential details including the film's release date and Scarlett Johansson's payout have already surfaced.

Daily Mail reports that Marvel Studios is eyeing a 2020 release for the project, which should be plausible since the script is already being worked on at the moment. As mentioned previously, the studio already hired "Blacklist" scribe Jac Schaeffer to write the screenplay, leaving the director and production team the remaining ones needed to start production.

Assuming the report is accurate, "Black Widow" would take one of the three mystery releases Marvel has reserved for May, August, and November 2020. While still unconfirmed, James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" previously suggested the threequel would be one of those as well, saying on Twitter that his film arrives in the same year. There is no word on the third film, but Screen Rant predicts it could be the sequel to "Doctor Strange."

The order of release remains to be seen, but the sequels will likely take after their previous installments' past releases. "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" could arrive in May 2020 release date and "Doctor Strange 2" in November, leaving the unclaimed August release for Black Widow.

Then again, Marvel has not confirmed this yet, let alone the Black Widow movie. It is currently in the early stages of development, so fans should take the latest report with a healthy grain of salt. If it does happen, though, Johansson is expected to earn her biggest payday yet.

The publication further claimed the actress will be paid a whopping $25 million for her involvement and another $6 million bonus paycheck if the movie generates more than $900 million worldwide. This could make her the highest-paid movie actress, although the movie does not necessarily have to be released on 2020. Fans will have to wait and see.

In the meantime, they can catch Johansson in character this May 4 in Marvel's "Avengers: Infinity War."
