There are more than a million ways for us to serve the Lord, yet some of us don't even try exploring these ways. We can serve Him with our words, our actions, our little gestures, our skills and talents. We can serve Him by doing simple tasks, as well as through huge endeavours.

Have you ever tried to do something different for the Lord?

Here are some reasons why you should try doing something different in your service to God.

1. It opens up more possibilities for service

While serving God in the same area of ministry for years is good, it also won't hurt to try out something new. God has given us many skills and talents, all of them at our disposal. When you try out new things, you might be surprised at what you find!

For example, there are a lot of ways you can serve God in church. If you're part of the music ministry, you can try lending a hand to the welcoming committee. Or if you're the shy type, you can try working behind the scenes. Some of us won't know what ministry we might be made for until we try every area of service in church!

2. It becomes exciting

Have you ever tried doing the same old thing for years? If you have, you might be familiar with the term "monotony." Try to put some colour and excitement in your service by introducing variety!

In Acts 6-7, we read that the church assigned a group of men who are well-respected, full of faith and of the Holy Spirit to become food-servers in the widow ministry. Such a noble task! One of these men, Stephen, suddenly became a preacher to the people who wanted to debate. This Holy Spirit-filled food server to Greek widows suddenly preached a message that included historical fact, a little storytelling and a stern rebuke! He also saw Jesus while doing that!

Serving the Lord becomes more exciting when we are open to serve Him in any way He calls us to.

3. You get to reach more people for Christ

When we do something different in our service for the Lord, we become enabled to bring more people to Him. Take for example Paul, who explained that well in 1 Corinthians 9:19-23:

"Even though I am a free man with no master, I have become a slave to all people to bring many to Christ. When I was with the Jews, I lived like a Jew to bring the Jews to Christ. When I was with those who follow the Jewish law, I too lived under that law. Even though I am not subject to the law, I did this so I could bring to Christ those who are under the law. When I am with the Gentiles who do not follow the Jewish law, I too live apart from that law so I can bring them to Christ. But I do not ignore the law of God; I obey the law of Christ. When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings."
