The townsfolk of Chester's Mill finally got their liberty when the mysterious dome that locked the entire town was destroyed, concluding the three-season run of "Under the Dome" on CBS last week.

The network already announced the show's cancellation back in August, but is there still a possibility of seeing a fourth season for the sci-fi mystery drama?

"Under the Dome" ended when the members of the Resistance finally managed to destroy the dome that set the town apart from the outside world. But their dreams of having a peaceful life did not come immediately after that. The town's residents were immediately gathered by the military to interrogate them about the dome. They were urged to hide the truth about it and they were made to sign a statement saying that the Aktaion and Hektor (Eriq La Salle) should be blamed for the mysterious occurrence in the town.

Big Jim (Dean Norris), Julia (Rachelle Lefevre), Barbie (Mike Vogel), Junior (Alexander Koch), and Dawn (Kylie Bunbury) all managed to dodge the military. However, they did not escape the dangers from one another's attacks.

After Junior was shot by Big Jim and Dawn was presumed dead when her own father Barbie decided to end her life to save humanity, the characters thought that everything was finally in order. However, another tragedy seemed to be brewing when Dawn reappeared one year later as a teacher seeking another egg to activate a new dome.

"Under the Dome" executive producer Neal Baer talked about the series finale with TVLine, saying that he is already satisfied with the way the story ended for the series. But he admitted that they added a little cliffhanger toward the end to pave the way for another season, but it is not necessary to prolong the plot.

He also said that they were not sure if the third season would be the final one, but they had already developed an ending that would tie all the loose ends of the story in case the network decided to cancel the series. But the executive producer also joked about an alternative ending in case a fourth season was to be ordered.

"They would have gone someplace else, and the dome would come down over another place. [Laughs] But then it would be like, 'Then what?' Would we do the same thing again?" Baer shared with TVLine. "It would have been a real challenge. I went on this incredibly interesting adventure that was a parable for sustainability in our world, and now, it's up to us to live the real life and do something about it."
