Just when we think that Elisabeth Moss will play the female lead in the upcoming second season of "True Detective," latest reports now claim that former "Mean Girls" star Rachel McAdams and "The Killing" alum Michelle Forbes are also being tapped for the said role.

It seems that there is stiff competition for the female role as other high caliber actresses are also vying for the part. It looks like HBO has no shortage of stars to choose from.

Apart for the female lead, it is also said that Vince Vaughn is in discussion with the production team in playing either the fourth leading role or the major villain next season.  Previous reports also stated that Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch will be playing the two leads, but neither actor has confirmed this information.

Until now, there is no concrete list of cast playing in "True Detective" season 2.

Meanwhile, the second season of HBO detective drama may surprise waiting fans. Reports claim that everything will be new or revamped next season.

According to Screenrant, the second season of "True Detective" will feature a new story, characters, and setting. Moreover, new directors will also work in the series. The website also added that the series will follow true anthology formula, steering away from the narrative that was used in the previous season.

The report added that Nic Pizzolatto, the creator of the series, is mulling over a lesser known town in California for the location, and that Los Angeles is already off the list. He said that he is looking for a certain "psychosphere ambiance" similar to what was featured in the first season.

HBO's head of programming recently revealed that the filming of the second season of "True Detective" is slated this month for its airing in early 2015.
