'Transformers 5' movie cast rumors: Mark Wahlberg vs. Shia LaBeouf fight for lead role?

Will the Transformers franchise succeed if plans to follow the multi-sequel film approach used by the Marvel Universe push through?

It seems this will be the way to go for Paramount as it plans on expanding the Transformers into such. But the question now is who will take on the lead role.

For fans who have followed the Transformers movie, it may be recalled that there are technically two actors recognized as the leads. The original and perhaps most recurring one is of course Shia LaBeouf who has been around since Transformers debuted way back in 2007 as Sam Witwicky.

But the last one, "Transformers: Age of Extinction" (2014), starred a seasoned actor in Mark Wahlberg who incidentally revealed that he would be doing more Transformer films despite Michael Bay not sitting on the director's chair.

Hence, if Paramount were to follow that multi-sequel strategy, who of the two would take the lead role?

LaBeouf as well as another original star in Megan Fox have been in rumors to be returning to the Transformers franchise. And while the debate goes on who between LaBeouf and Wahlberg would be taking the lead, it could very well be both of them.

There is that possibility of creating sequels on different timelines (think reboot) or even storylines which would allow both LaBeouf and Wahlberg to co-exist. With the Transformers set to do a few more sequels, that could be a possibility. Who knows they may even cross paths at some point.

With plans for the Transformers still up in the air any of these could be possible, including the two slugging it out on who gets the lead role.

Also, there are rumors which say that the Transformers could crossover with G.I. Joe, making the possibilities further endless. If that were the case, could a third possible lead character enter the fray? Think Channing Tatum.
