Sad and lonely? Here are some truths that will help you find comfort in God

Nobody likes the feeling of being sad and lonely, and because of this, we all try our best to not feel it. Some stay with friends just to have fun and avoid the loneliness, but when our friends leave us, loneliness creeps in. Some try to find something meaningful to do, but when the work is done, life goes back to how it should be: sad and lonely. Isn't there a way to finally solve this problem?

The great news is that there's a way, my friend. And that way is through having a longer-than-lifetime relationship with God. Here are some truths about this relationship with God that will drive your loneliness away.

1. God will never leave you alone and abandoned

Have you ever felt abandoned by the people you love? God will never abandon you. He made a promise that He is faithful to keep, and this promise is enough to drive our loneliness away. He said "I will never leave you nor forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5)

2. God will never let anything take you away from Him

Human relationships end when one party decides to let go. God, however, has made up His mind never to let go from His end. Jesus Himself explained this powerful truth in John 10:28-30.

"I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one."

3. God is committed to your growth in Him

Relationships are a two-way thing, meaning both parties have to give some effort to do their part. God does His, too. Philippians 1:6 encourages us of this truth.

"And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ."

4. God's love will never be taken away from you

Human love gets challenged and can diminish. God's love can't, won't and doesn't. And no matter what happens, God's love for you will never cease.

"For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:38-39).

5. God loves you more than you'll ever know and comprehend

God's love for you is more than what pen, paper, parchment and PDF can contain and explain. It's just so immeasurable, and spans the whole of eternity. We get to rest in His great love when we realise just how immense, yet specifically directed it is towards us.

"I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you" (see Jeremiah 31:3).

"See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are" (see 1 John 3:1a).
