Pokken Tournament to launch in 2015: Pokemon arcade game sans Tekken characters

Pokken Tournament will be launched in arcades in Japan in 2015, but it's pretty much wait-and-see for game enthusiasts who have long wanted to get an official Pokemon fighting game on consoles. Tekken fans won't see their favorite fighters in the game either.

"Nope, Tekken characters will not be making an appearance," Katsuhiro Harada of Bandai Namco Games told fans in a Twitter interview, translated by Event Hubs. (It's called Pokken Tournament because it's a collaboration between The Pokemon Company and Tekken's Bandai Namco Games.)

He said, "As we're making a Pokemon fighting action battle game, I've already touched on this while on the livestream, but in this game there will not be a high/mid/low guard system mechanic. Instead, we're planning to include a new type of [mechanic]..."

He also said that on the technical side, Pokken Tournament will support a wide variety of Pokemon types, not just humanoid ones; but they are going to look at what fans want in terms of system mechanics.

Pokken Tournament is a two-player arcade game in which characters go against each other one-on-one using their special powers and skills, in the tradition of Tekken-style games. However, Harada did say that there is no high/mid/low guard system mechanic, so one can only imagine what the company has planned.

Forbes says that a Pokemon RPG for console would be something the franchise's fans would welcome.

For now, the company is developing Pokken Tournament which just might offer something new for both arcade and Pokemon enthusiasts.
