Fans are waiting to get their hands on "No Man's Sky," a revolutionary game set in 18 quintillion planets that is sure to be a groundbreaking experience for even the most jaded gamer. No release date has been announced for the game as of the moment, but Managing Director of Hello Games and chief designer Sean Murray's recent appearance on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" seems to indicate that the game's release date is closer than anyone thinks it is.

At Colbert's show earlier this month, the host told Murray, "The world's been dying to know the release date, I'm guessing it's fairly soon since you're on my show," and the game designer laughed at this, but said that the release date is "still a secret."

Murray talked about the game, saying that what they are trying to do is to "make an entire universe, and then we're gonna set people loose on it." Describing the vastness of the game's landscape, Murray said that by the time anyone has explored all of the planets in "No Man's Sky," the "sun might have burned out."

Murray revealed that there were only 10 of them making the game, and because of the intricate workings of the worlds that they have made using their computers, he said that they were constantly surprised to find creatures and life that they never knew existed in the game. Murray also gave a demo of the game on the show, and the studio audience was in awe upon learning that the creatures shown on the screen grew based on the parameters that Murray and his team set for that particular planet.

The designer also previewed other features in the game, and said that players can name the creatures and even the planets if they were the first one to discover them. Murray also said that it's possible to run into other people in the game, but the chances of doing so are "incredibly rare" because of the massive size of "No Man's Sky."

And while Murray is keeping mum about the release date, Techno Buffalo reports that signs all point to a 2015 release date—specifically, Oct. 27.
