Alex Dunphy (Ariel Winter) does not want to make a big production of moving into her new digs in Caltech in the upcoming episode of the ABC series "Modern Family."

In "The Day Alex Left for College," TV Guide reports that Claire (Julie Bowen) and Phil's (Ty Burrell) nerdy, smart middle child is all set for her move in day, but does not want her parents to know when. Alex will reportedly give them false information, as she wants them to treat her as an adult capable of doing her first task as a legit college student — setting up her new place.

While definitely happy that their kid is being so independent, Claire and Phil are still sad to see that Alex seems to get along fine without them. Haley (Sarah Hyland) is living her own life now, staying less and less in their home. Luke (Nolan Gould) is undergoing a difficult stage and has not been himself lately. With Alex gone, they are certainly feeling the blues of feeling their children pulling away from them.

Co-creator Christopher Lloyd spoke to Yahoo TV recently about this new phase in Alex's life and how the Dunphy's are coping with it. According to him, it will be Phil who will be more affected by the separation, as Claire has her work to distract her.

"I think it hits Phil a little bit harder than it hits Claire, because Claire's more involved in her professional life at this point, especially as Jay starts to make some noises about retiring. She's much more immersed in her work life, but Phil takes it kind of hard," said Lloyd.

Lloyd also revealed that while Alex will be busy with her college life this season, fans will still get to see her often. Most of the cast members will reportedly visit her in Caltech and she will frequently be come home on weekends. He also said that Alex might be having a blast in the university, but she will still be missing her parents and siblings, as well as her friends back home.

Meanwhile, also in episode 2, Mitch (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cam (Eric Stonestreet) are still adjusting to their new situation at home. They have decided to rent out their upstairs unit to help with the finances, but it is proving to be a stressful task. Missing Lily's (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) soccer game will just make it more difficult for them.

"Modern Family" airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
