Microsoft Surface Pro 5 news: Hybrid tablet rumored to be revealed in October, may come with a rechargeable Surface Pen

The rumored Surface Pro 5 is expected to be unveiled sometime in October, the same time last year that the Surface Pro 4 was released. It may also have a pricing range similar to that of its predecessor, which gradually increases as configuration improves.

The base model with an Intel i5 is said to start at $899, the one with an i7 at $999, and $1,599 for an i7 Extreme. Additional storage space will also add up to the final price and other sorts of configuration. It is also rumored that a bigger-screened hybrid tablet may be offered.

Patently Mobile unearthed last January a patent filed by the Redmond tech giant back in June of 2014, and it shows a rechargeable stylus. The report features several illustrations and shows that the company has been designing a stylus that will come with its own docking port, where it can be charged and so that it won't be misplaced. The image shows that the alleged Surface Pen will feature an on/off button, an indicator light, a built-in rechargeable battery and charging terminals. The charging terminals are placed on the stylus' housing and will be in a form of a ring that wraps around the upper portion of the pen.

The illustration of the docking port suggests that it needs to be attached to the tablet or laptop and will not act as a stand-alone hardware.

Currently, there is no official word if the alleged Surface Pro 5 exists in a super-secret facility of Microsoft.

In other news, Microsoft released Windows 10 Build 14279 last March 4 but was available only to Windows 10 Redstone Insider Program members. Winbeta reported that Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 owners who have downloaded the said update immediately noticed that hanging and freezing issues have developed in their units.

According to the report, the Windows team immediately acknowledged the issue and recommended a workaround for now. Users were instructed to do a hard reboot once the said machines suffer a freezing issue.
