Apple is expected to launch a new line of Macbook Air and Pro notebooks this year and latest rumors point to an all-new 12-inch model.

Whether the 12-inch version of the Macbook will be appearing in the form of a Pro or Air laptop, the purported new size would definitely be an option for those opting for a smaller, lighter and cheaper notebook.

The current Retina Macbook Pro is available in both 13 inch and 15 inch options.

However, the Macbook Air, which currently comes with 13 and 11 inch display options, is not currently available with retina displays.

The current Macbook Air boasts powerful specs and amazing battery life. The 11-inch lasts 9 hours, while the 13-inch lasts up to 12 hours. The notebook remains powerful with a 1.3 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5.

Other rumors surrounding the new 2014 Macbook Air includes a touch screen and touch buttons. Many laptop/tablet hybrids available today provide a touch screen option, and Apple may integrate that feature onto the Macbook Air displays.

The trackpad is also said to be improved with "force sensors and actuator feedback" which will enable users to use the trackpad with sensors alone rather than tapping it.

Apple is also rumored to phase out production of its non-retina Macbook Pro laptops with optical drive, replacing the Pros with a thinner body and frame.

Digitimes recently reported: "The sources pointed out that Apple has been reducing its Macbook Pro prices, narrowing the price gap between the Macbook Pro and the one equipped with Retina... Apple stopped producing the 15-inch Macbook Pro in 2013 and will end production of its 13-inch model in 2014."
