Lindsay Lohan kept her social media posts positive following her battle with the chikungunya virus last week.

The actress contracted the flu-like virus while vacationing in French Polynesia over the holidays.

Lohan shared a photo of herself on a jetski, and revealed the picture was taken before she got sick.

"Before I got chikungunya…use [bug] spray please …God bless," she tweeted on Saturday.

According to the World Health Organisation, chikungunya virus disease is transmitted by mosquitoes and can cause fever, joint pain, muscle pain, weakness, nausea, and other symptoms.

Severe cases have eye, neurological, and gastrointestinal problems, and joint pain that lasts for years.

There is no cure for the disease but treatment can relieve the symptoms.

Despite her sickness, Lohan appeared to be in good spirits, and shared other positive messages earlier this week.

"Being sick is no fun," she admitted. "But happy new year everyone. Be safe. Love all. Make a difference..."

The 28-year-old also shared an Instagram photo of herself with some of her friends. "In good faith with good people," she captioned the picture.

"I refuse to let a virus effect my peaceful vacation... be safe and happy on the new year all... #wildfox and a positive, healthy new year."

Lohan took a week-long vacation from her work on David Mamet's play, "Speed-the-Plow," produced in London, to enjoy the tropical locale. The production was Lohan's first return to acting since a stint in rehab and an appearance in an OWN documentary earlier this year.

Lohan rose to fame as a child actress in the 1998 film "The Parent Trap." She went on to star in "Freaky Friday," "Mean Girls," and "Herbert Reloaded". 

In recent years she has become more known for her personal life, which has included several arrests, rehab stays, and a tumultuous relationship with her parents.
