Huawei Kirin 930 featured in MediaPad X2, Ascent P8 smartphone to pack processor

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei has incorporated the Kirin 930 in its MediaPad X2, the company's flagship tablet that was showcased during the MWC 2015, which kicked off in Barcelona. While several thousand consumers might have believed that the powerful slate featured an octa-core processor comprising of one quad-core Cortex-A57 and one quad-core Cortex-A53, Huawei decided to confirm that it had omitted Cortex-A57 from the processor equation, much to everyone's surprise, seeing as how the Cortex-A57 is a powerful CPU to be paired with.

According to GizmoChina, the company's representatives were present at an event where they explained as to why the firm chose to incorporate the following quad-core processors:

  • One quad-core Cortex-A53e ('e' stands for advanced)
  • One quad-core Cortex-A53

Huawei assimilated one quad-core Cortex-A53e CPU, which is a far more powerful variant compared to the regular one. The company's reasoning for pairing the following quad-core chips is because although Cortex-A57 provides 56 percent more performance compared to Cortex-A53, it also ends up consuming 256 percent more power, according to the information present on the website. As a result, the additional heat generated by the processor will be deleterious to the remaining components and the overall battery life, since it takes a longer time for heat to dissipate from such a small volume of space provided inside the mobile product.

While Cortex-A53e trails behind its powerful brother, it is still able to provide the best possible combination of performance and energy efficiency, something that Cortex-A57 will never be capable of. According to the website, the MediaPad X2 was able to score 44,000 points in an AnTuTu benchmarking leak. Another device that is going to sport the Kirin 930 will be the company's Ascend P8 smartphone, which is expected to be announced on April 15, 2015. Currently, it has not been confirmed whether or not the upcoming handset will be featuring the same quad-core combo, so it will be up to company to confirm these speculations.
