Honor 6 Plus: Huawei releases iPhone 6 Plus doppleganger in China

Huawei Honor 6

Chinese tech firm Huawei has launched its latest smartphone offering. Interestingly, the new handset reminds everyone of Apple's smartphone flagship. The similarities of the devices are huge, almost like they were conspicuously put there. The resemblance starts with the name. Huawei addresses its handset Honor 6 Plus and it bears even more features akin to those of the phone it was named after.

The Huawei handset sports a look comparable to previous iPhone designs, iDigital Times reported. Encased in metal, the Honor 6 Plus dons a premium and classy look. Color variants are also not different (black, silver and gold). However, Huawei failed to replicate the incredible thinness of Apple's large-screened device but it is nonetheless streamlined. With the iPhone 6 Plus at 7.1 mm, it remains relatively slimmer than its 7.5 mm-thick doppelganger. Conversely, the Honor 6 Plus followed iPhone 6 Plus's screen features — 5.5-inch display and a 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution.

Looking under the hood, the likeness of the two dwindles. The iPhone 6 Plus is powered by a 1.4 GHz dual-core A8 processor on top of 1 GB of RAM. The Honor 6 Plus packs a 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 1.8 GHz. It supports a bigger RAM, which amounts to 3 GB. The Huawei device houses a 3500 mAh battery while the iPhone 6 Plus has a 2950 mAh battery.

An interesting feature that sets the Honor 6 Plus apart from its supposed twin is its imaging capabilities. While the Apple device sports an 8-megapixel rear-facing shooter and a 1.2-megapixel FaceTime camera, Huawei put in dual 8-megapixel rear cameras in the handset. But that is not the most distinguishing factor it boasts. As per Gizbot, the Honor 6 Plus allows users to refocus photos after they are captured, which tech outlets broached to be an adaptation of HTC One M8's camera features. In addition, Honor 6 Plus users could add title shift, sketch and comics as filters. Lastly, the Honor 6 Plus has Android KitKat onboard. Basically, it is the iOS' Android counterpart. The Touch ID isn't be there, iDigital Times stated.

The device is available for pre-order in China starting today. The 4G variant is at $400 and the 3G model is up for grabs for only $325. Media outlets say that Huawei has an international release for the Honor 6 Plus on the cards.
