Avid viewers of the US political thriller "Homeland" will have to wait until January next year to find out what's in store for the show's characters in its sixth season.

The TV series' multi-awarded lead actress, Claire Danes, however, recently dropped some hints on what the next season be like for her character, main protagonist and Central Intelligence Agency officer Carrie Mathison.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly during the Film Society of Lincoln Center's Women of "Homeland" event at New York City's Walter Reade Theatre, Danes shared that Carrie will once again try to live a normal life.

The lead character of "Homeland," however, will have to grapple with the guilt from events last season, Danes said.

"She's stateside; she's living with her daughter," Danes told EW. "This idea of atonement is still playing. She's accrued a lot of guilt over the years and she's still wrestling with that. She's on her meds! She's probably mentally capable."

"I think [season 6] is more about deep-conscience diving rather than madness or preaching madness," she added.

As for where and when "Homeland" Season 6 will be set, Danes revealed that the show will explore the United States at a time when it is transitioning into a new presidency.

"It takes place during that intermediary phase where the president has been elected but has yet to assume the position of president. It's that in-between moment that is not typically focused on, so it'll be interesting to see what it looks like," she shared.

Danes added that "Homeland" Season 6 will explore the intelligence agency's hand in policies and politics.

"I think it's a lot about policy and politics and how the CIA participates in that, because it does take place in America. I think that's the most relevant, exciting happening right now. It's wild what's occurring and it's worth investigating, so that's what we'll be doing," the actress said.
