'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' sequel: Who is Star Lord's father? Is there a Howard the Duck movie?

Following the huge success of "Guardians of the Galaxy," the sequel is already being worked on by writer and director James Gunn. The "Guardians of the Galaxy 2's" release date is July 28, 2017. But everyone isn't letting any stone left unturned and who better to answer the questions than Gunn himself.

One of the major questions from the "Guardians of the Galaxy" is the father of Peter Quill a.k.a. Star Lord. During the movie, it was revealed that Quill was only half-Terran, the other side couldn't be identified. His father might be special since he was able to hold on to the Infinity Stone much longer.

At the end of the movie, it was revealed that it is Quill's father who ordered Yondu to pick him up from Earth. However, Yondu decided not to deliver Quill to his father and instead, call him a jerk. Other than not, there's nothing else known about Star Lord's father.

According to First Showing, Star Lord's father is J'Son in the comics. He is heir to the Spartax throne but he was accused as a traitor so he had to run away. J'Son was then called to return to Spartax when a war started. Returning to his planet, he crash landed on Earth and met Quill's mother Meredith Quill. Jason decided to leave Meredith behind because of fear that she might get hurt in Spartax. J'Son suppressed Meredith's memories and asked his uncle to retrieve his son on Earth.

Obviously, this isn't the story Gunn is following. He shared to Empire: "There have been a lot of documents passed around about who Peter Quill's father is between a select two or three of us. That's been part of the plan since the beginning, that's something I had to work out before we shot the screenplay. We wanted to make sure Yondu's place in everything made sense and it does, so it's all very specific stuff."

Gunn added, "It's definitely not the character who it is in the comics, I'll say that much."

Who else knows about Star Lord's father? According to Badass Digest, only Michael Rooker (Yondu), Kevin Feige and Sean Gunn (Kraglin) knows about Quill's father. Speculation says that Quill's dad is of cosmic origin, one possibly known as Eternals.

Meanwhile, Howard the Duck popping up also raised questions. Gunn explained to Empire : "I think it was some combination of me and the editor Fred Raskin who said, 'Let's put Howard The Duck in there. What if The Collector looks over and sees Howard The Duck sitting there?' And I wrote down the line, 'Whaddya let it lick you like that for? Gross.' Fred and I thought it was hilarious, but we weren't sure that Kevin Feige would go for it. But we told Kevin and Kevin couldn't stop laughing, so that's how it came about."

Will Howard the Duck be back in the sequel? "I'll be honest with you, I was just talking about it with my assistant right now. It's possible Howard could reappear as more of a character in the Marvel Universe. But if people think that's going to lead to a Howard The Duck movie, that's probably not going to happen in the next four years. Who knows after that?" says Gunn.
