Google Nexus 7 2016 release date: Device release may be delayed to September

The Google Nexus 7 was expected to be unveiled and released during the recent Google I/O conference but this did not come to pass. According to Vine Report, there are now rumors that the new tablet has been delayed on purpose, particularly due to the development of Android N.

It is further noted that Android N has just entered its final beta testing phase and is still undergoing development changes. The new OS is still being previewed by developers and still has several bugs and incomplete features that have yet to be fixed for the final version, such as split-screen multi-tasking and quick notification replying.

According to the report, the plan is to have every new Google device that is released this year run on Android N. This cannot happen if Android N is not yet out and it is speculated that the Nexus 7, as well as other devices such as their flagship phones, will be delayed to launch once Android N is already out.

The report further points out that consumers may need to wait longer than anticipated. If Google plans on launching the Nexus 7 after the release of Android N then it is likely that the tablet will not be launched until September, a few months after Android N is publicly released for currently available devices.

Android N is speculated to release in July and if the Nexus 7 will follow shortly after then a September release is likely. The only issue with this rumor is that it will pit Google's new device in direct competition with Apple. Apple is speculated to release the new iPad Pro model and iPhone 7 in late September as well.

Neither Google nor the individual manufacturers for the Nexus 7 have responded to the rumors and the aforementioned release date should still be considered as pure speculation until the companies give an official statement.
