According to speculations, due to the success of the latest "God of War" offering, Kratos and his adventures might return next year with "God of War 4."

According to a report from Realty Today, a new "God of War" installment may be waiting in the wings and Sony will take the veil off it before the year ends. Specifically, the website placed the upcoming PlayStation Experience convention as the event at which the company will device to announce the upcoming "God of War 4" title.

This year's PlayStation Experience will be held in San Francisco, California on Dec. 5 and 6.

Meanwhile, although Sony still has to unveil concrete and confirmed plans about a new title, rumors have also risen because some retailers are already anticipating the release. According to GearNuke, UK retailer SimpleGames already has a placeholder for the upcoming "God of War 4" on its website. In the listing, the title is already updated for pre-orders. However, although the listing has a Dec. 31 release date, it was only given as a placeholder. Should Sony announce the "God of War 4" next month, fans are more likely to expect the release date during the first half of 2016.

Meanwhile, although Kratos is the most identifiable character in the franchise, some observers are saying that since his story is done following the conclusion in "God of War 3 Remastered," fans may expect a whole new character and story for an upcoming title. However, Kratos may still be an NPC, if not a playable character, for "God of War 4."

"God of War 3 Remastered" is an updated reboot of the original third installment in the franchise. "God of War 3" was first released in 2010. The story follows the continuation of "God of War 2," as Kratos and the other Titans wage war against the Olympian gods.
