With the remastered edition of "God of War 3" out in the open, attention is expected to shift to the highly anticipated "God of War 4," which should be the next up for development.

Series writer Cory Barlog recently left some comments on "God of War 4" via the Playstation Blog, and his statements seemingly hints at the return of a main character who died — Kratos.

Multiple sources suggest that the fourth installment could see the return of the said main character, although that has yet to be confirmed. But all that could be answered in the coming week via Sony's Playstation Experience 2015, which is set to take place in San Francisco on Dec. 5 and 6.

From the looks of it, the remastered "God of War 3" will serve as the springboard for the next installment, which is likely to come out in either 2017 or 2018. With that said, all hopes of seeing "God of War 4" this year could very well be impossible.

While some groups believe that Kratos could be due to return, Movie Pilot says otherwise. According to the media outlet, instead of Kratos, a new mythological creature could rise, leading to the creation of a prequel for the "God of War" franchise.

Further to that, it seems that other characters pegged to make a return may not bear fruit. These include rumored characters such as Jak and Daxter. Instead, star new gods could be joining the party. That list, according to Crossmap includes Thor, Odin, Loki, and possibly other Norse gods.

With Santa Monica Studio people currently focusing on the remastered version of "God of War 3," it could perhaps be best to keep tabs on how that goes. There is a fair chance that a lot of the key characters and possible plots may be tied up to it.
