Although Rick (Nathan Fillion) and Kate (Stana Katic) are officially together again, they will still act as an estranged couple in the upcoming episode of the hit ABC series "Castle."

During the midseason finale, the much awaited reunion between husband and wife finally came, with Kate saying sorry to Rick for shutting him out of her life. She admitted that she has been engrossed in her LokSat investigation that she was not able to pay attention to what was happening in their relationship. Kate asked her husband if he could help her out in her probe on the drug cartel, as she has come to realize that she needed her his help now more than ever.

Although Rick showed every intention of dismissing her apologies, he eventually forgave her, as the viewers knew he would. He just could not stay angry at her for long and the pair eventually made up for the lost time. As they returned to their jobs, however, husband and wife decided that they do not need the drama associated with the reconciliation. They agreed that it would be best for their colleagues to think that they are still separated. In that way, they could both focus on the job and keep their private life from interfering with work.

In their interview with TV Line, showrunners Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter discussed about the current situation between the couple. They said that it would be fun to watch, as the viewers would feel they are in on the secret while all the rest are clueless about the reunion.

"What we love is that now that we're twisting it so that they're in it together but the public face of them is separate, that allows the audience to be in on the joke with them — in the sense that they can fight in public, but the audience knows it's just an act. It is pretty delightful, having seen several of the episodes coming up," Hawley said.

The executive producers also hinted that the first episode of 2016 titled "Tone Death" will showcase the comical set up between the two, as they hide the fact that they are reunited once more. EW Spoiler Room reveals that the episode will focus on Rick and Kate's investigation on the death of an a cappella group member. Corbin Bleu of "High School Musical" will reportedly guest star.

"Castle" season 8 will return on Feb. 1 at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
