Christian country singer Carrie Underwood was once again a big hit during the 2016 CMT Music Awards on Wednesday night. She took home two awards and wowed the audience with her rendition of her new single "Church Bells."

Underwood, 33, was nominated for three awards, according to the Gospel Herald. 

She won Performance of the Year and Female Video of the Year awards, both for her song "Smoke Break." She was also nominated in the Video of the Year category, but the honour this year went to Tim McGraw for his song "Humble and Kind."

To this day, Underwood remains the biggest winner in CMT Awards history, having won a total of 16 trophies.

"I want to thank you guys for coming out and supporting country music on tour," Underwood said during the event. "We've spent the first part of the year on the road and it's just been so wonderful to see so many people come out. I know I speak for everybody out there—all of us artists who say you guys are the reason that we get to do what we get to do. Thank you so much for coming out and supporting us in concert. God bless you guys."

The event, which was held at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, was hosted by Erin Andrews and JJ Watt.

Other big winners include Thomas Rhett, who took home the Male Video of the Year award for his song "Die a Happy Man;" newcomer Chris Stapleton, who bagged the Breakthrough Video of the Year award for his song "Fire Away;" and Little Big Town who won the Group/Duo Video of the Year award for their "Girl Crush" video.

Meanwhile, Underwood's good friend and "The Voice" judge Blake Shelton won CMT's inaugural Social Superstar title, which was voted for by fans.
