"Boardwalk Empire" will return with its eight-episode fifth and final season. If you haven't caught up with the story, there's no need to fret. HBO has just released an extended recap so you can get back on track instantly.

HBO released a nine-minute clip that features the past events that took place in the five years that "Boardwalk Empire" was running. But don't expect to know Nucky Thompson entirely through the clip alone, that's impossible. Nonetheless, the clip will remind you about everything that happened and how it culminated to the last season of the HBO show.

"Boardwalk Empire" season 5 will have a 7-year time jump. The first four seasons took place in the 1920s and season 5 will be a jump from the prohibition period to the Great Depression.

Michael K. Williams shared with the Television Critics Association panel discussion that "The storyline has jumped seven years [into the future], which is why I have the beard now. The Depression has set in. The days of the shiny shoes and fancy suits are long gone."

So, when "Boardwalk Empire" returns this Sunday, Nucky will be in the early 1930s. At this time, according to CarterMatt.com, "the era of prohibition is coming to a close and this is going to allow Cullen an opportunity to really look ahead to potentially operate a business more within the bounds of the law."

He definitely has a deep past and it will come back and haunt him. However, the show won't use the air time to just do flashbacks about his past. Rather, fans can expect to see flashbacks of Nucky in New Jersey during his childhood. Also, the flashbacks will show what happened to him and how he transformed into a ruthless man now.
