Despite being confirmed to be in the works, not much information about "Avatar 2" has been revealed.

The first Avatar movie came out back in 2009 and was hailed as the highest grossing films of all time after it earned more than $2 billion.

Fans naturally wants to see a new installment from the franchise, which Cameron gladly obliged. But even as the series of sequels of the groundbreaking sci-fi movie franchise has been discussed since 2010, the details of the films were only revealed recently.

While Cameron wrote the script for the original "Avatar" movie, previous reports said that he will be joined by a brilliant pool of writers to pen the scripts for the upcoming series of sequels.

Some of his collaborators include "War of the Worlds" writer Josh Friedman for the first installment of the sequel,  then "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver for the second sequel and "Armageddon" writer Shane Salerno for the final film in the three-part "Avatar" sequel series.

The writing pool allegedly came up with three new films that will be launched starting 2017. "And we've done that so that everything tracks throughout the three films. We're not just going to do one and then make up another one and another one after that and parallel with that, we're doing all the design. So we've designed all the creatures and the environments," Cameron explained (via MNG).

The plot of the next installment from the "Avatar" sequels allegedly deals with a huge battle that could possibly involve lead characters Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), the daughter of the Omaticaya tribe leader. Meanwhile, several reports offered a contradicting rumor, saying that Sully and Neytiri are no longer together in the beginning of the sequel.

More information about "Avatar 2" is expected to be revealed before the end of 2015.
