Despite numerous delays, a report from Crunchyroll confirms that "Attack on Titan" season 2 is indeed entering production and will premiere during spring 2017. The announcement was made when the cast for "Attack on Titan" and "Attack on Titan Junior High" came together for the annual "Attack on Titan Festival."

According to the report, the new season will launch during spring but a specific time frame for its premiere has not yet been announced. It was previously reported that a Spanish TV network had previously hinted the series was going to be pushed back to 2017 and this now confirms the previously leaked information.

However, this only pertains to the Japanese premiere and it is likely that the U.S. premiere will follow a few weeks or months after.

Fans speculate that season 2 may launch by late April or early May if there are no further delays. As previously reported, the season has been pushed back due to the studios prioritizing "Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress."

There have also been rumors that the studios have been waiting for the manga source material to publish more issues so that the anime will not surpass it and be forced to alter the story's ending or use filler material. This has been an issue seen with HBO's "Game of Thrones" season 6 as the book it should be based on has yet to be released.

Other anime series, particularly the "Dragon Ball Z" and "Naruto Shippuden" series, have also relied on filler episodes as they wait for the manga to put out more material the anime could adapt. By waiting, "Attack on Titan" season 2 would be a more faithful adaptation of the series.

A new poster has also been revealed on the official "Attack on Titan" Twitter page, showcasing the main character Eren transformed into his Titan form in order to deal with the larger Titan breaking through the city walls. This is only half of the story for season 2, however, which will also deal with a rebellion against the royal family.
