Google is preparing its next update for the new Android Nougat platform. A developer preview started to roll out for the upcoming 7.1 version.

Previously, Google has mentioned that it will start with beta versions of the new Android Nougat 7.1 platform, and the developer previews will start to roll out this month. True to its promise, it is now confirmed that the developer preview is already available on the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, and the Pixel C tablet. Meanwhile, those who are waiting for their devices to get the developer preview will need to check back next month. As stated by Dave Burke, Google vice president of engineering, "We'll extend the Developer Preview to other devices in November."

Meanwhile, although the OTA update notifications have yet to come out, factory images for the Android Nougat 7.1.x beta are also available for the Pixel and Pixel XL.

Although the beta versions have started rolling out, it will still take until the end of the year before the final version, the Android Nougat 7.1.x, will be rolled out completely. The Google announcement also reveals that "At the final release of the Android 7.1.x platform, due in early December, we'll roll out updates to the full lineup of supported devices."

At the end of the year, the full version of Android Nougat 7.1.x will update the Pixel and Pixel XL, as well the Pixel C tablet, Nexus 6P, and Nexus 5X. The Android Nougat 7.1.x is also compatible with the Nexus 9, Nexus 6, and Android One.

Meanwhile, outside of the Android Nougat 7.1 update, third-party devices have yet to update to the Android Nougat 7.0 base version. It is expected, though, that tech giants like Samsung, Sony Mobile, and HTC will start updating their lineups to the new platform later this month. While not confirming specific rollout dates, it is believed that third-party devices outside of the Google lineup will get the 7.0 Android Nougat update before the year ends.
