The Lord Jesus Christ has freed us from the slavery of sin. Our real independence day came many years ago when Christ cried out with a loud voice, "It is finished!"

His atoning work on the cross has brought freedom for all who believe. Today, however, real freedom is yet to be seen in the lives of many people in the world.

In Christ we have been set free so that we could live the lives God meant us to live: to live as His children, holy and blameless, living for the glory and praise of God through Christ who gives us life and life abundantly. We are free to live for Him who died to set us free.

Here are some Bible verses you should meditate on to understand your real freedom in Christ.

John 8:34-36 – "Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free."

Galatians 4:1-7 – "Think of it this way. If a father dies and leaves an inheritance for his young children, those children are not much better off than slaves until they grow up, even though they actually own everything their father had. They have to obey their guardians until they reach whatever age their father set. And that's the way it was with us before Christ came. We were like children; we were slaves to the basic spiritual principles of this world. But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, "Abba, Father." Now you are no longer a slave but God's own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir."

1 Peter 2:24 – "He personally carried our sins in His body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By His wounds you are healed."

2 Corinthians 5:14-17 – "Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life. He died for everyone so that those who receive His new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them. So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know Him now! This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!"

Romans 6:1-4 – "Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined Him in His death? For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives."
