The next generation of Toyota Prius is reportedly capable of driving "30 to 35 miles" when running on battery alone, based on a report from Green Car Reports.

That will be a significant upgrade from the 11-mile range of the original version.

The report cites a trusted anonymous source coming from the auto industry who is "deeply familiar" with plug-in hybrid cars.

The previous model is reportedly the worst of all hybrid cars to have a battery-only performance. However, the new 2016 Toyota Prius will arrive to change that.

If the reports will be confirmed, the 2016 Toyota Prius will be the second best electric-only powered vehicle of all hybrids available in the U.S., placing next only to the 2016 Chevy Volt.

Toyota had already halted the production of the 2015 Prius Plug-in and reports stated that the production of the next generation vehicle won't start until the second half of 2016.

Los Angeles Times reports that the fourth-generation Prius plug-in will be unveiled in fall this year, and analysts say that the car should outmatch its predecessors.

Last year, the automaker sold over 200,000 units of the three Prius models combined, according to IHS Automotive.

Prius is also considered the bestselling hybrid vehicle in the American history, with 1.8 million units sold during its debut 2001 model.

However, the sales this year are not looking good with a drop of 15.8 percent from 2014, according to industry research firm Autodata Corp., as reported by LA Times.

Not a lot of details have been given about the 2016 Toyota Prius, but the company has confirmed that the car will be available in dealerships by the end of this year. It will be offered in hatchback form only and will have a conventional sedan look.

If the next Prius Plug-in does get the 30 to 35 miles rating, it will be dubbed as having the second-highest range among all plug-in hybrids available today.

It will even surpass the range of Ford and Hyundai hybrids.

The 2016 Toyota Prius is expected to look better and sportier and provide more superior driving dynamics while keeping the reputation of a high quality and reliable vehicle.
