Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update release date: After PC and tablet roll out, company eyeing mobile devices

Microsofts started delivering the Windows 10 Anniversary Update to PCs and tablets last week. Now, eligible smartphones will soon be able to download the latest version very soon. It was leaked to happen on Aug 9.

Neowin reported that the Twitter account of Microsoft India revealed that the tech giant will roll out its Windows 10 Anniversary Update on Aug. 9. The posting said, "@VinayRavipati Thanks for reaching out! For mobile, it will be available on August 9, 2016. If you have any queries, we'll be here for you! - Lumia India (@LumiaIndia) August 2, 2016."

However, this was taken down after a few hours.

Windows mobile phone users were quite disappointed when their devices were not included among those that will receive the latest update when it was launched last Aug. 2. Other devices by Microsoft received an update that coincides with the anniversary update, Xbox One and Hololens included.

After taking down the post, Lumia India eventually replied to queries with regards to the Anniversary Update, but only citing the Aug. 2 release date for the PC.

For those Lumia users who want to update immediately, one can join the Insider Program by Microsoft. RTM Build 14393.5 is currently available to all types of members of the program, namely Fast, Slow and Release Preview. Windows phone owners should also take note that not all phones will be able to download the Anniversary Update. Microsoft stated that the only models eligible are Lumia Icon, 1520, 930, 830, 735, 730 640XL, 640, 640, 638 1GB, 636 1GB, 635 1GB, 535, 532, 540, , 435, 430, BLU Win HD w510u, BLU Win HD LTE x150q and MCJ Madosma Q501.

Windows Central added that owners of the Lumia 950 and Alcatel One Touch Fierce XL who use AT&T and T-Mobile, respectively will most likely receive the Anniversary update by Aug. 16. That is one week after the others, which will give the carriers more time to test the features and enhancements.

For the meantime, fans will have to wait for Microsoft's official announcement with regards to its update for their supported mobile phones.
