Elisabeth Moss could play the female lead in the second season of "True Detective".

According to the latest report of The Wrap, Elisabeth Moss is currently in talks with the people behind "True Detective" to play the female lead in the show. She will play the female character of a sheriff named Ani Bezzerides who has a dark past.

This female sheriff will most likely be the center of all of the characters. The female lead will be in her 30s and will have her own issues. The character will have a troubled past and have gambling and alcohol problems.

If Moss does agree to be part of the show, her new character will be far from her role as Peggy Olsen in "Mad Men," which ended earlier this summer.

Moss will be joining other rumored heavy weight actors for the TV series next season. Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch will be playing the two leads in the second season of "True Detective," although the actors have not confirmed yet if they will take the roles or not. Colin Farrell's character will have anger management and cocaine issues.

On the other hand, latest rumors claimed that Vince Vaughn is also having discussions with the management in playing the fourth leading role. Other reports claimed that he will play the role of a villain next season.

Meanwhile, show creator Nic Pizzolatto said that the script of "True Detective" season 2 is halfway finished. He also revealed that next season will feature four main characters rather than the initially rumored three lead roles.

The show creator also confirmed that the second season will be shot in California. HBO has not announced the exact premiere date of the "True Detective" season 2 yet. However, reports claimed that the series will be back on air in January 2015.
