'The Incredibles 2' release date news: Story takes its lead from hook in first movie

Pixar, Disney

"The Incredibles 2" is one of Disney-Pixar's most anticipated films, which will launch more than a decade following the first movie. According to a recent interview with iO9, Pixar's Andrew Stanton, who is currently directing "Finding Dory," the sequel to the superhero movie will follow a story arc that was initially teased in the original movie.

"Well, look, it was in the movie from the first one," Stanton explained regarding the main story hook. "There was a big promise at the back end of the movie. 'Here we go. They're now a family of superheroes.'"

The 2004 "The Incredibles" ended with the family suiting up as a family of super-powered beings and at the very end it was revealed that the baby, Jack-Jack, also had powers of his own. It is widely speculated that the sequel will focus primarily on Jack-Jack as an older child and his journey to become either a superhero or a super villain.

Speculations suggest that Jack-Jack may even turn to past villains out of frustration and this will cause him to experience the main conflict of the movie, where he decides whether to become a villain or to follow in the footsteps of his family.

Producer Lindsey Collins also stated that one of the most important moments that the second film needs to build on is the introduction, particularly the first five minutes, as this is where the audience should get excited to be back with these characters.

The report from iO9 also points out that the wait has been long enough, indicating that the movie is very likely to be a success just from the built-up anticipation of the audiences. Many fans point out the similarity between the release of "The Incredibles 2" to the build up Disney also utilized to their advantage in releasing "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

Unfortunately, there is no specific release date yet announced for the movie although it is scheduled to premiere in theaters by June 2019.
