'Super Smash Bros 4' characters roster update; New screenshots of stages, characters revealed

While it's just three months away from "Super Smash Bros 4" being released on Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo is making sure that fans of the game will be treated to something new every day. This is exactly what game director Masahiro Sakurai has been doing for a while now.

Every Monday to Friday, Sakurai is keeping things exciting by posting screenshots of game features and sharing it with fans. It's called Pic of the Day. Here's the recent list of the images and what Sakurai had to say about the screenshots:

Paper Mario Stage

"Super Smash Bros 4" will have a Paper Mario Stage and this will be the first time this stage is gracing the game. Sakurai described it saying "It's made of paper, so strong winds will blow it away." He also added that since it's a paper stage, it can be transformed and folded, which makes for different scenes. The one in the screenshot is the S.S. Flavion: The Thousand-Year Door.

Takamaru,the Assist Trophy

This confirms that Takamaru, an assist trophy, will finally be part of the game. The image was captioned "I, Takamaru, have waited many years to appear in Super Smash Bros.!" Sakurai added "Link, Samus, Pit, and I debuted in the same year! Multidirectional Pinwheel Knife Rook Attack!! (FYI, I'm an Assist Trophy.)"

3DS Version Menu

"The icons are even animated. The design concept may look similar if you've played other games I've worked on," Sakurai said.

He added: "But we had a hard time making this one because the bottom screen displays pictures matching each mode! This was quite a task for the UI (User Interface) designers, but they made it happen. Kudos to them! You can tap the screen to look up additional info like how to play–complete with diagrams."

Tomodachi Life Stage

Sakurai gives a peek at the Tomodachi Life Stage, which is only available in 3DS. "The front walls of the apartments disappear so you can see the area within when a fighter overlaps with the room. The rooms are randomly placed and selected from among several types. Planting an X Bomb behind a wall might be an effective tactic," Sakurai explains.

The added surprise? "You might run into a Mii living in the room! The Mii characters are taken from the data in your 3DS system, so you could find your friends living in the apartments," since Mii Characters are officially a part of the game already.

So far, what characters are already confirmed to be in the game? The new ones include Pac-Man, Wii Fighters, Palutena, Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer, Little Mac, Rosalina & Luma, Villager, Greninja, Chrom, Lucina, Robin, Charizard, Zero Suit Samus and Sheik.

The returning characters include Ike, Captain Falcon, Yoshi, Diddy Kong, Lucario, Little Mac, King Dedede, Zelda, Marth, Sonic, Toon Link, Peach, Luigi, Pikmin & Olimar, Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Kirby, Pikachu, Fox, Bowser and Pit.

"Super Smash Bros 4" will be released October 3 for Nintendo 3DS and Holidays for the Wii-U version. Meanwhile, always be updated with what's new with the game through it's official Twitter account.
