Story about Zimbabwe pastor eaten alive by crocodiles is fake news
A story about Zimbabwe pastoreaten alive by three crocodiles after he attempted to show his congregation he could walk on water has been widely reported. The trouble is it never happened - the story is fake news.
According to reports, Jonathan Mthethwa was killed as he tried to walk across what is known as the Crocodile River in Zimbabwe, according to the Daily Post. He was imitating the New Testament story in which Jesus walks across the water, and invites his disciple Peter to do the same, the reports claimed.
Zimbabwe Today also carried the story.
However, the website Snopes, which specialises in exposing fake news stories, has revealed that in fact the incident is a complete hoax.
