The Salvation Army has over the weekend installed two new leaders to the Finland and Estonia Territory at congress meetings in the country’s capital Helsinki.

Colonels André and Silvia Cox from Switzerland were welcomed by Commissioner Hasse Kjellgren at the congress, with General John Larsson commenting in his installation speech that The Salvation Army always needs the right leaders for the right time.

Mr Cox said in his acceptance speech: “It is a great joy for us to be here.”

Commissioner Freda Larsson led the Saturday morning breakfast for women on the themes of the international Salvation Army, as well as the Army’s work in Narva, Estonia, which has the highest proportion of people with HIV/AIDS in Europe.

General Larsson meanwhile visited a hostel for homeless men and a day centre in Helsinki, during which time he stressed the importance of men being good role models.

The congress also included a celebration of The Salvation Army’s Year for Children and Youth and a Saturday evening music festival with a performance by opera singer Petrus Schroderus. In his Bible message General Larsson urged the audience “never to give up on Jesus” and “never give up on yourself”.
