Everyone was surprised that David Clarke is still alive and back in the series. It was speculated that his return will anger his daughter Emily.

The final episode in the previous season was a total cliffhanger after a lot of characters exited the series and the way things turned out. First, Aiden was killed by Victoria who is now staying in a mental hospital by Emily's doing. Moreover, Conrad Grayson is left on the side of the road bleeding to death after he was attacked by David Clarke. All this time, Emily was avenging her father's alleged death. However, everything she worked for seemed worthless with the return of the person she was taking revenge for.

"Bringing David back, he's the one character out there who could really push a lot of her buttons. For us, we're always looking to do new dynamics and find something new," show writer Aaron Harberts told E! Online. This is backed up by the statement of show runner Sunil Nayar that David is not the person they knew.

This sparked speculations that David Clarke will be the villain next season. Reports claimed that David Clarke will bring trouble to a lot of people next season as he is placed in an unfavorable position caught in between two battling women.

Meanwhile, a new character will appear next season. Brian Hallisay was reportedly cast to be the new local police officer in town and will be Jack's new friend. He is described as being fun-loving and easygoing. It was initially reported that he will be Emily's new love interest.

On July 11, the cast and crew of "Revenge" started filming the fourth season of the hit suspense TV series. The producer of "Revenge" spilled that next season will tap to the emotions of the characters. "Revenge" season 4 will return to ABC on September 28.
