The cameras will begin to roll for "Prometheus 2" early next year, film director Ridley Scott shared during his interview with Total Film magazine.

Scott revealed the production date for the long-awaited sequel in the September 2015 issue of Total Film magazine. Scified spotted a page from the interview that was scanned and posted online in a forum by user Midnightexpress.

The director also talked about the sequel of the 2012 film "Prometheus" during his press tour for his upcoming film "The Martian," which is set to release in November. In a chat with HeyUGuys, Scott said that the movie will not be called "Prometheus 2." Instead, the sequel will be called "Alien: Paradise Lost."

He also revealed the reason why they decided to change the title. "Well, because we are heading back to why, how, and when the beast was invented. We'll go back into the backdoor of the very first 'Alien' that I did years ago."

Scott also revealed in another interview, with new.com.au, that the crew is trying to bring the "Prometheus 2" production to the Fox Studios in Sydney in January next year.

"I'm trying to get into the big Sydney studio there for 'Prometheus 2.' We're doing that ... well, I'm kicking off now actually. We're literally starting prep now and we've got to land somewhere very shortly because my team have to get themselves over there and get all their team together." Scott said. "The pyramid of personnel on a film like this could be anywhere from 400 to 600 people, so you've got to get going — you've got to move."

The original "Prometheus" movie earned about $403.4 million at the box office.

Scott will reportedly work on the script written by Michael Green and Jack Paglen for the upcoming sequel. It will star Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender. Rick Barnett is also in negotiations to appear in the film.

"Prometheus 2 Alien: Paradise Lost" is expected to release in 2017.
