A debate over what is appropriate church attire erupted this week after Kendall and Kylie Jenner were spotted wearing crop tops at a worship service. 

The large family went to West Hills Church in the San Fernando Valley on Easter Sunday, and turned heads with their unconventional style. 

The family outing included matriarch Kris Jenner, her daughters, Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, Kendall, and Kylie, son-in-law Kanye West, and grandchildren North, Mason, and Penelope.

Also in tow were Kylie's rapper boyfriend, Tyga, and his two-year-old son, King Cairo, and Kris' boyfriend, Corey Gamble.

While the stars' descent upon the church drew plenty of attention, it was the Jenner girls' choice of clothing that has garnered the most attention. 

Kylie, 17, wore high-waisted jeans and a cropped sweater that revealed a couple of inches of skin at the midriff. Kendall, 19, opted for linen capris and a bandage halter top that left her stomach completely exposed. 

After the paparazzi photos circulated the internet, many people criticised the teenagers' fashion choices. 

"Come on, you're in the house of God, you can go one day without being fashion forward," one woman told the New York Daily News. "It's disrespectful."

"We have people come casually dressed in jeans and sneakers, but certainly none with an exposed midriff," said Father John Knapp of St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church in Riverdale.

"There's a fine line. You certainly wouldn't want to do something to distract people."

Knapp added, though, that he was happy the clan even went to church. 

The family has not responded to the controversy, but Kylie shared a positive message with her fans on Sunday.

"...In this world I'm happy w the way God created me," she tweeted. "Happy Easter everybody."
