'Persona 5' release date: Game still scheduled for 2015

Persona 5 centers on the clash of the ordinary with the extra-ordinary. Atlus/Persona 5

"Persona 5," a highly-anticipated title from game developer Atlus, is coming this year. This was confirmed by John Hardin, the PR manager at Atlus USA, in an interview with God is a Geek.

In the interview posted on Aug. 12, Hardin remained mum about the exact release in Europe, but he denied that the game has been moved to 2016, saying, "That's just completely wrong. A lot of people assume that this is correct because they published something back in what, 2008? It just isn't true. I'm working on getting those incorrect listing removed. We are trying to get publishers locked in for our titles in EU and will announce things when they are locked in. We don't want another Shin Megami Tensei IV or Devil Survivor Overclocked situation. We are very aware of what happens when we make premature announcements for Europe. At least I am. The only thing I can confirm for Persona 5 is 2015."

Acording to this report from Shack News, Altus will prioritize its release of "Persona 5" in a region where it reigns strongest — Japan. The Western release would follow right after that, although it is presumed to arrive in Western shores by the later part of this year.

GameZone further explains that "Persona 5" fans in the U.S. and Europe have reason to hope that the game will arrive this year. The game's own website indicates that the game is on schedule to make its debut on the PS3 and the PS4 consoles.

Hardin's comments, however, did not confirm a December date, which a rumor suggests. The said rumor, which surfaced near the end of June, involves an issue of the Persona magazine. Past issues of the magazine were reportedly published at around the same time as a new "Persona" game, and the next one is rumored to arrive this December, prompting speculations of a December rollout for "Persona 5."

More solid details are expected to be revealed at this year's Tokyo Game Show in September.
