While news about the third season of Showtime and Sky's horror drama thriller "Penny Dreadful" has been scarce, a few teasers have been posted online to keep fans updated.

Early this week, series executive producer Christopher King posted a new photo taken from the set of "Penny Dreadful" season 3 on Twitter showing a mysterious new scene that involves an Egyptian mummy.

According to the executive producer, the scene with the Egyptian sarcophagus and a drawer engraved with the words "Cairo Museum" is being directed by their new director Paco Cabezas. However, he did not provide any other details pertaining to the episode.

The scene could also involve anyone from the list of characters in the series, since series showrunner John Logan hinted at the end of season 2 that some of the characters will have their own personal journeys in season 3.

"Next season, some of them are alone, and they don't have their friends to turn to — they don't have that support. And how they're going to function out there in the world without each other is interesting. What will be the event that will draw them back together?" Logan shared with the Entertainment Weekly.

Logan recently revealed that "Tudors" star Perdita Weeks will have an important role to play in "Penny Dreadful" season 3.

According to Mashable, Weeks will portray the role of a rebellious scholar named Catriona Hartdegan, who has a wide range of knowledge of the supernatural. She will allegedly be an instrumental ally of the main characters of the series to battle the evil forces.

Meanwhile, several sightings of the stars from the series have been reported since production for season 3 began in September.

According to The Daily Mail, Eva Green was spotted in costume as she walked on the streets of Dublin, Ireland. The actress who portrays the role of the mysterious heroine named Vanessa Ives, wore a floor-length Victorian-style black skirt with a form-fitting black jacket on top of a beige shirt. Her wardrobe was fitting for the 19th-century setting of the series that centers on the lives of Irish and British fictional characters.

"Penny Dreadful" season 3 will premiere in 2016.
