Pastor Greg Laurie on What Christians Should Do While Waiting For Jesus' Return

What should Christians do while waiting for the second coming of Jesus Christ? Pastor Greg Laurie from Harvest Christian Fellowship suggests that people should be wise with how they choose to spend their time.

On his blog, Laurie shared the story told by Jesus about a man who went on a journey and entrusted his wealth to his servants. "This was not an uncommon practice in those days," wrote Laurie. "A wealthy man or king would have many servants in his household, from those who would do basic labor to those who would oversee the financial affairs of his home, even managing his business. In many cases, some of the man's slaves would be better educated and skilled than he was."

Laurie said highly trusted slaves already have a free hand with whatever they're entrusted with while the owner is home. But when the master goes on a journey, they will have full and total authority.

The pastor then provided a good comparison. "Jesus is like that wealthy man who went on a journey, and we are the servants in which He has made an investment," he shared. "This story, like so many in the Scriptures, reminds us to take advantage of opportunity while it is available."

Even the Bible passage from Ecclesiastes 11:1 to 6 says so: "Send your grain across the seas, and in time, profits will flow back to you... Plant your seed in the morning and keep busy all afternoon, for you don't know if profit will come from one activity or another — or maybe both."

Laurie added that the parable of the wealthy man teaches Christians to be productive with their life. "Be productive with your time," he said. "Seize the opportunities that God has given. We are to take what He has given us and use it for His glory while we await His return."
