"Orange Is the New Black" is currently under production and like most Netflix shows, a veil of secrecy has kept most spoilers and plot details from leaking online. One detail that has been confirmed is that "Mad Men" creator Matthew Weiner has been locked in to direct at least one episode for the upcoming season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, this will mark the first time Weiner will direct a project that he himself did not write. He previously helmed nine episodes of his famous series "Mad Men" as well as his 2014 feature film "Are You Here."
Weiner will be joining the ranks of Jodie Foster, Allison Anders and Nicole Holofcener as special guest directors for the series.
In the report, actress Laura Prepon got to elaborate further on the experience working with a highly acclaimed director such as Weiner.
"We filmed a huge day on Sunday, and a lot of directors might have been overwhelmed by that, but he wasn't and he knew exactly what he wanted to do," she explained. "With a huge cast like ours, when you have a director who knows exactly what they want, it makes everything go a lot smoother. I love Matt - he's awesome."
Prepon didn't reveal any specific plot details for the episode Weiner helmed but she did hint that her character was set to get into a lot of trouble and that the fans would "love it."
Unfortunately, no details were released regarding which episode was being directed or who wrote the episode.
Directing an episode for a TV series is also vastly different from helming a film since the director has more control in the latter. In directing a TV episode, control is mostly given to the showrunner and then spread out to the writers and directors.
However, based on Prepon's statements, it appears Weiner fits right in from being a showrunner to a director of someone else's show.
"Orange Is the New Black" season 4 premieres in 2016.
