NVIDIA's newest gaming graphics card is expected to be launched early in 2017. The GTX 1080 Ti will have less components for improved performance.

NVIDIA announced that company co-founder and CEO Jen-Hsun Huang will be hosting the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) on January 2017. Huang is expected to bring groundbreaking news in the areas of artificial intelligence, virtual reality, self-driving cars, and gaming.

Because of Huang's participation in the 2017 CES, it is anticipated that he will also announce the new NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti at  the show.

WCCFTECH confirms through Hardware Battle that the NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti will have cut downs in terms of GPU and CUDA cores, but will have better performance than the GTX Titan X. Based on previous reports, graphic chips that have cut back versions provide better performance than their high-end alternates.

The GTX 1080 Ti cut down to a GP102 GPU and will only be having 3328 CUDA cores, a slightly lower number compared to the Titan X. Because of the lower number of CUDA cores, it also means that the GTX 1080 Ti will only have 208 TMU's compared to the 224 that the Titan X has.

Although the Titan X holds the title as the ultimate graphics card, the GTX 1080 Ti is expected to top its performance, similar to the comparison of GTX 980 and GTX 970. The GTX 980 has 23% more CUDA CORES and a faster clock versus the GTX 970, but the latter performed 15% faster.

According to WCCFTECH, the reason cut down graphics cards perform better than the full models is because the high count of CUDA cores are not proportion to the resources inside the card. The fewer the number of CUDA cores, the more these cores have proportional access to the chip's resources that results in a more optimum performance.

NVIDIA's GTX 1080 Ti is expected to debut in January 2017 at the Consumer Electronics Show.
