New York Giants president John Mara is not pleased with the way defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul has been trying to get medical attention on his own after losing his right index finger to a fireworks accident last July 4.

Pierre-Paul did not meet with two Giants officials who went to Florida to visit him and check on his condition after the gruesome accident. 

In a report by the New York Post, Mara called it "very disappointing" while also sharing that no one from the Giants organization have seen Pierre-Paul's injured hand yet. 

Now, along with his concern for Pierre-Paul's health, Mara is also worried because he believes the 26-year-old player is not getting very good advice. 

According to ESPN, a source said Pierre-Paul will continue getting medical attention and rehabilitation all by himself near his home in Florida. 

The source also said that the two-time Pro-Bowler is expecting to be healthy and will be ready to play "sooner than a lot of people think."

Mara is not taking the matter lightly and said, "He has told people that he's fine and that he's going to be ready to play, but until we see the hand, we're just not sure."

But ESPN said the problem is technically, Pierre-Paul is not under contract with the Giants since he has not signed yet the one-year, $14.813 million tender they gave him when he was assigned as the franchise player last March. 

This means Pierre-Paul is not obliged to let the Giants examine him or decide a timetable for his return, ESPN added. 

The Giants will not take any risks about his contract and wants to see Pierre-Paul first before they make a move. 

"We obviously are going to have to see him first and determine whether or not he's capable of playing this year before we take one step further," Mara told the Post.
