The last "Indiana Jones" movie was the 2008 flick "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls," a film which was not warmly received by fans and critics. Fast-forward to 2015, LucasFilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that Disney and LucasFilm are currently talking about doing another one.
In an exclusive report from Vanity Fair, Kennedy explained that when Disney purchased LucasFilm in 2012, they didn't just get the rights to "Star Wars," although that would be the biggest benefit of the deal. In the acquisition, Disney also gained the rights to other LucasFilm properties such as "Willow," "Radioland Murders," and "Indiana Jones."
According to the report, Kennedy stated that there is no script being written but the producers are talking about re-visiting the franchise. It appears that there is interest in producing another "Indiana Jones" adventure, but for the moment. they are focusing a lot of their efforts on their "Star Wars" properties.
It is possible that once "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and "Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One" get the revived science fiction franchise going, the companies will shift their attention to producing a new "Indiana Jones."
Kennedy did not confirm if actor Harrison Ford is being approached to reprise his role as the titular character. Rumors have spread across the Internet that the companies are considering rebooting the franchise and may cast a younger actor to portray the character. Bradley Cooper and Chris Pratt are the names commonly tossed around to fill the role.
The report also points out that there is no one more qualified to find or commission the perfect script for a new "Indiana Jones" movie than Kennedy, who served as executive producer for all of the previous films in the franchise. Kennedy has also been a long-time collaborator with legendary director Steven Spielberg.
