"NCIS: Los Angeles" season 8 will officially premiere on Oct 2, as reported by Release-Date.info. While a renewal is no surprise, the report points out that the show is seeing a decline and could be cancelled after the upcoming season. 

As stated by the report, season 7 premiered back on Sept. 21, 2015 and managed to garner over 7.89 million viewers. By the time the season ended it had 8. 10 million viewers. Despite the numbers being just enough to warrant another season, the report points out that critical reviews have been declining. 

The report points out that the IMDB average score for season 7 was 6.7 out of 10 while the Rotten Tomatoes average for season 7 is at a 77 percent approval rating. Metacritic has the lowest average score for the series, where season 7 sits at 4.6 out of 10. 

According to a report from Ecumenical News, season 8 will pick up where season 7 left off and see G. Callen (Chris O'Donnell) continue his quest to discover his true identity, his family origins and more. Several clues, including the reappearance of his father, all took place in the past two seasons and more may be revealed in season 8. 

Callen still needs to discover more about his name is and where his father went after living as a KGB agent. His father did give Callen's original full name but the show did not yet divulge what else Callen discovered with the papers linked to his name. He also needs to travel to Romania to discover more of his roots and what may have happened to his family, including his mother who was revealed to be a CIA agent. 

Executive producer John Peter Kousakis also stated via Twitter that the season will open with "sensational" episodes although he did not state in detail what their main plot would be about. He did confirm that it will keep the 8 p.m. time slot on Sundays and also kept fans on the line by stating they should stay tuned for more upcoming announcements.
