'Narcos' season 2 development hits new roadblock

Netflix has yet to announce the release date for "Narcos" season 2. Narcos/Official Facebook Page

The development for "Narcos" season 2 seems to be on ice with the showrunner for the first season, Adam Fierro, walking out of the award-winning series. Whoever takes the torch will be the third showrunner for the show.

Before Fierro took over, Chris Brancato was the showrunner for the hit Pablo Escobar drama. He joined midway the development of the freshman season and helped out show co-creators Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro finish up the whole thing.

By the time the show aired, Brancato was no longer around. Fierro, on the other hand, was able to finish what he agreed to do for "Narcos" season 2 before leaving the series, which included writing and breaking plots for the season.

Just like Brancato, Fierro won't be around when the new season he helped created gets out of Netflix's door. However, it looks like the show still goes on for the streaming giant, even in the middle of their search for Fierro's replacement.

Before an official showrunner steps in, director Jose Padilha (who was already the executive producer and director in the first season) and Eric Newman will fill the spot to continue the development production of "Narcos" season 2. Miro and Bernard now serve as consulting producers.

Fans are very excited to see how the second season turns out considering the action and drama in the first season. However, with major changes happening behind the scenes, there's the underlying worry that the new season will arrive later than it was supposed to.

The first season of the TV reimagining of the Colombian kingpin's story earned 3.2 million views in the 18-49 demographic according to TV Series Finale. It was renewed back in September, with "Narcos" season 2 expected to drop as early as August 2016.

With the recent shake-up off-camera, it will come as little surprise if the show will be delayed.
