BioWare is welcoming back an original writer for the first "Mass Effect" game, and fans are now excited to see what that could mean for the latest entry from the franchise.

Drew Karpyshyn may not be a household name to many, but he is very well known to gamers all over the world as the lead writer for the first "Mass Effect" game. Karpyshyn left BioWare, developer of "Mass Effect," in part because he wanted to take some time to focus on his trilogy of novels, according to iDigital Times. Now that he has finished that project, Karpyshyn has shared his intention to pick up where he left off with BioWare.

Given his previous work, many fans expect Karpyshyn to work on "Mass Effect 4," also known as "Mass Effect Andromeda," but that apparently isn't the case, at least for now. According to him, he originally came to BioWare to work on "Star Wars: The Old Republic," and he has reiterated that for now at least, he has returned to the company to work on that game again.

Karpyshyn's current designation is most likely not what "Mass Effect" fans expected when it was initially reported that he was coming back to the company, but that doesn't mean he won't get something new to work on down the line.

According to Game Zone, there's still a possibility that Karpyshyn could end up working on "Mass Effect 4" before it's all said and done.

The latest news regarding Karpyshyn comes at the heels of what appeared to be a staff shakeup at BioWare.

Recent reports have suggested that Chris Schlerf, originally the lead writer for "Mass Effect 4," is no longer with the team, and that in his place is John Dombrow.

Later on, it was discovered that Dombrow is currently listed as a senior writer for BioWare, meaning someone else could still be helming "Mass Effect 4."
