'Jurassic World 2' release date, news, spoilers: Colin Trevorrow drops some more teasers on sequel

"Jurassic World" was one of the biggest films of 2015, and a sequel is underway, with a script being handled by the first film's director, Colin Trevorrow while J.A. Bayona takes over to helm the project. Although specific details are still unknown, Trevorrow recently gave fans several details about what to expect when the sequel hits theaters in 2018.

Speaking to Jurassic Outpost, Trevorrow explained that he had Bayona in mind as a potential director even before the studios were considering the possibility. Because of this, he had designed some of the story and script elements to work around Bayona's directing style.

Trevorrow also confirmed that the movie would use the same technique as previous movies, particularly "Jurassic World" and the first "Jurassic Park," in that it would rely heavily on animatronics instead of CGI for the dinosaurs.

He stated that animatronics would be used when the dinosaurs were only moving from the hips or for close-ups but not when they were moving all around as this would need computer special effects. He did point out that the Indominus Rex was one exception to this rule as the fluid movement of the creature could not be accomplished with practical effects.

With regards to the film's tone, he stated that it would not be an adventure or action film, but rather, it will closely follow the horror and thriller themes of "Jurassic Park." He said: "It will be more suspenseful and scary. It's just the way it's designed; it's the way the story plays out."

During the interview, it was also confirmed that Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard were reprising their roles, but there was no word regarding the return of B.D. Wong as Dr. Henry Wu or if the "Jurassic Park" cast members, such as Sam Neill or Jeff Goldblum, may be coming back.

"Jurassic World 2" is scheduled to premiere on June 22, 2018.
